Giving back to the community is important to Saikali Portfolio Management, and is something we make sure to do throughout the year. Sometimes this means making a financial donation to a cause we care about, and other times it’s about donating our time and support to a charitable event. This week, we’re supporting our community by attending a spectacular annual fundraiser: Dancing with the Docs at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau.

A great night for a great cause

Dancing with the Docs is no ordinary gala. There will be the usual dinner, drinks and dancing, but the main event is a series of ballroom dances performed by local physicians and researchers who have been paired with professional dancers from Arthur Murray Dance Studio. If you’ve watched the reality show Dancing with the Stars, this will be a familiar scenario – the pairs perform a waltz, cha-cha, tango or other ballroom dance before an audience and a panel of judges (in this case, local television personalities from CTV and TSN). Instead of a “mirror ball” trophy, the winners receive the coveted “Medicine Ball”.

These dedicated medical professionals spend months rehearsing their programs in order to compete live at the gala. It’s a huge commitment on their part – the time, the energy and the willingness to perform live for their peers and the greater Ottawa community. We are grateful to these amazing participants as well as their professional dancer partners, as their efforts raise money that goes directly to cancer care, research, patient care and innovative stem cell treatments at The Ottawa Hospital. Over $160,000 for was raised in 2017 alone – what an achievement!
